Freedom to read week / Semaine de la liberté d'expression: February 26 - March 4, 2017
The Manitoba Library Association encourages you to celebrate Freedom to Read Week (February 26th to March 4th, 2017) by putting up a poster in your Library or community or hosting a display or event in support of intellectual freedom.
Freedom to Read Week is an annual event and chance to renew our commitment to intellectual freedom. It is led by the Book and Periodical Council, with sponsors including the Canada Council for the Arts, the Ontario Library Association, the Canadian Urban Libraries Council, and more. Around the country, gatherings and exhibits are organized to highlight books that are currently banned or have been banned before. You can find an event calendar, ideas for how you can celebrate, and order additional Freedom to Read Week materials at the official website:
Banners and clip art are available from the event's website:
The Manitoba Library Association is currently helping distribute over 1000 Freedom to Read Week posters across the Province. If you wish to share a photo of your Library’s Freedom to Read Week display, please email it to firstname.lastname@example.org. It will be sent to the Book and Periodical Council and highlighted on the Manitoba Library Association website and newsletter. You can also share your events and displays on social media (#FTRWeek or @Freedom_to_Read), or submit an event on the Freedom to Read Website.
