The Access Services Coordinator develops a strategic vision for the
successful interaction among
the Library’s public service areas, including Circulation,
Interlending and Document Supply,
Research and Instructional Services, and Archives and Records. The
Coordinator works
collaboratively with Library staff and stakeholders throughout the
Library and across the
campus, in particular with the Research and Instructional Services
Coordinator, the University
Archivist and FIPPA Coordinator, the Circulation Supervisor and the
Interlending Supervisor,
but also with appropriate public services areas within the University
of Winnipeg as a whole, to
ensure a high degree of coordination among these public services, and
between the University’s
public services and those of the Library. The Coordinator reports to
the University Librarian
and contributes to overall Library planning. In addition, the
Coordinator serves on Librarians
Council and other committees, task forces and working groups. The
Coordinator also
participates in reference, instructional services and collections
development activities.
Duties and responsibilities:
· Coordinate Access Services, which includes circulation of library
collections and print
reserves, Interlending services, shelving, and stack maintenance.
Access Services
employs 6.5 staff positions, and numerous student assistants. This
Coordinator will
develop a strategic vision for the successful interaction among the
Library’s public
service areas, including Circulation, Interlending, Reference, and
Archives.
· Participate in the provision of reference services.
· Assist in providing information literacy (research skills) sessions
to a variety of
disciplines.
· Serve as a collection development/subject liaison librarian for a
variety of disciplines.
· Participate in the development of the Library’s website content on
a regular basis,
including updating information and developing new content.
· Participate in facility maintenance, which includes renovation
projects, signage,
allocating space to public services (computers, printing equipment,
public service desks,
furniture, etc.), and monitoring public space issues (e.g. climate
control, furniture, safety
requirements, etc.).
· Committee work and service, including Librarians Council, the
Departmental Personnel
Committee, the Library Policy and Planning Group, and other Library and
University
committees and task groups.
Qualifications:
The successful applicant will have a Master of Library and Information
Science (MLIS) or
equivalent degree from an ALA-accredited institution, preferably at
least three years’ experience
in an academic setting, excellent problem solving, analytical and
organizational skills; evidence
of the ability to work independently or in teams; the ability to work
successfully with faculty,
students and colleagues; excellent oral and written communication
skills; experience with public
services in an academic library setting, and experience in teaching
information literacy and
research skills to beginning and more experienced students; and
experience with implementing
and/or participation in new service models for academic libraries.

Appointment:
This is a continuing track appointment. Librarians are appointed
depending on qualifications and
experience. The base salaries (2009-2010) are as follows: Librarian I:
$46,407; Librarian II: $48,781 and
Librarian III: $60,070.
