Role and Scope:
The Library Systems & IT Services Coordinator provides innovative vision
and strategic leadership for new and existing library systems and
information technology services in the University of Winnipeg Library.
Working collaboratively with colleagues and staff and stakeholders
throughout the Library and across campus, this position explores new
information and communication technologies and initiates new projects. This
position takes a creative approach to improving the student experience with
respect to Library systems and to increasing capacity with respect to
academic information technologies and scholarly publishing systems. This
position reports to the University Librarian and contributes to overall
Library planning and serves on Librarians Council and other committees,
task forces, and working groups. This position also participates in
reference, information literacy, and collections development activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leads in the development of innovative new services involving library
systems and scholarly and academic information communication technologies; - Provides leadership and contribution of technical expertise to projects to
accomplish the Systems & IT Services program and projects in the Library; - Provides leadership in the development and delivery of new systems and the
revitalization of existing systems throughout the Library; - Monitors ongoing Library IT operations, and, in collaboration with other
staff and in conjunction with the Systems Supervisor and unit staff,
formulates and implements new programs; - Ensures the effective deployment of resources assigned to Library Systems & IT Services;
- Ensures that suitable policies and procedures for the effective delivery of
Library Systems and IT Services are in place, understood by staff, and
applied in day-to-day operations; - Ensures effective systems integration with University applications and
campus IT infrastructure; - Communicates and builds effective relationships and links to internal and
external institutional partners; - Represents the University Librarian at technology meetings/forums within
the Library and campus-wide, chairs and participates in various committees,
tasks forces, working groups and special projects; - Contributes to the Library's strategic planning process, through the
development of a unit plan, aligned with existing University strategic
plans; - Plans and advocates for IT infrastructure renewal and expansion;
- Effectively manages the Library Systems & IT Services staff, including
mentoring, career development, training and orientation, performance
assessment, and providing feedback and coaching to staff reporting to the
position; - Identifies and reports key success measures for Library Systems & IT
Services
Qualifications:
- Masters of Library and Information Science or equivalent degree from an ALA-
accredited; - Minimum of 3-5 years experience in an academic setting;
- Experience with the development of Web-based information services as well
as a significant knowledge of new and emerging digital library technologies
and standards; - Demonstrated success as an innovator with a creative spark and a strong
team approach to development; - Outstanding interpersonal communication and organizational skills (personal
and virtual).

Appointment:
This is a one-year term appointment starting 1 September 2009 and is
subject to final budgetary approval. Librarians are appointed to a rank,
depending on qualifications and experience. The base salaries (2009-2010)
are as follows: Librarian I: $46,407; Librarian II: $48,781 and Librarian
III: $60,070.
