COMMUNITY SERVICES DEPARTMENT
The City of Winnipeg Community Services Department invites applications for a Librarian 1.
Salary range: $1,818.36 - $2,125.38 Biweekly
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
-
Assists with planning, organizing, promoting, conducting, monitoring and evaluating system-wide and site-specific programs and services for children, young adults, parents and adults who work with youth.

Supports policy development by conducting research, preparing reports and drafting recommendations.

Meets with Youth Services staff through a schedule of regular branch visits.
-
Develops and delivers staff training to develop skills in program design/delivery and reference/reader’s advisory work, including training in the use of current and emerging technologies, in consultation with Information and Virtual Services.

Develops new programs and services in response to needs assessment and in support of best practices.

Provides assistance and support for special projects involving children’s and young adult programs and services as a result of new initiatives, grants, sponsorship and donations.

Writes grant proposals, produces documentation for grant projects and prepares the final report for the funder.

Assists in preparing recommended system goals for children’s and young adult programs and services.

Contributes to public awareness of programs and services for children and young adults by making public presentations and responding to media requests as appropriate and in consultation with Community Outreach and Marketing.

Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
-
Master of Library Science Degree or Bachelor of Library Science Degree from an ALA accredited institution.

Knowledge of best practices and current trends in library services and programs for children and young adults.

Knowledge of Children’s and Young Adult literature.
-
Basic knowledge of child and adolescent development including milestones of literacy skill acquisition.

Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and evaluate.
-
Well-developed problem-solving and human relations skills.
-
Ability to communicate well orally and in writing.
-
Ability to make presentations and to promote library programs, services and collections.
-
Ability to do basic math.
-
Working knowledge of Word, Excel, Outlook.
-
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with employees at all levels of the organization, external contacts and the public, in accordance with the Respectful Workplace Policy.
NOTE:

The successful applicant may be required to complete a health assessment questionnaire and to undergo an eye examination at the Occupational Health Branch.
