Canadian Library Month 2009: Closer than You Think!
Summer may have just arrived but this year's Canadian Library Month
(CLM) is just a few weeks away!
MLA is once again pleased to announce its support for October's CLM. As MLA's Advocacy Director, I had the pleasure of representing Manitoba libraries on the CLM national planning committee. This year's CLM theme builds on last year's theme of Your Library, Your World.
Canadian Library Month 2009: Your Library, Your World. Now More Than Ever.
We hope you will use this theme to get your creative juices flowing about how you can best promote your own library within your school, organization or community. As library and information professionals our skill sets and the services we offer have been relevant “now more than ever” for some time, but as we find ourselves in recessionary times this year’s CLM committee felt it was a good moment to remind the country of the value we offer.
From supporting the educational and leisure pursuits of the general public and students, to meeting the information needs specific to government departments and organizations big and small, library and information professionals provide the foundational supports for Canadians to achieve their goals and add enjoyment to their lives.
Accessing CLM 2009 materials
School libraries and Manitoba’s public libraries will be mailed copies of this year’s promotional poster and bookmarks. Thank you to Manitoba Education, Citizenship and Youth’s Instructional Resources Unit, and to Manitoba Culture, Heritage, Tourism and Sport’s Public Library Services for assistance with distribution.
To download CLM 2009 materials, including a library advocacy “backgrounder” and ideas for events, visit the official CLM 2009 website:
http://www.cla.ca/clm09/index.htm
If you would like official hardcopies of the poster and bookmark please contact me (see below). We have order a couple hundred extra of each in addition to the material being mailed out.
On behalf of the CLM national planning committee and the Manitoba Library Association thank you for all the work you do and best wishes for October.
