The Manitoba Library Association (MLA) is your organization -- any person or organization who cares about libraries and information services can become a member.  MLA represents all types of libraries and information services, their employees, and all Manitoba citizens.

 MLA administers two scholarships as well as the Manitoba Library Service Award and the Library Innovation of the Year Award.  We are always looking for more ways to serve the library and information services community and our membership.

With MLA Membership, you can:

• Run for a position on the MLA Executive or serve on committees;
• Attend a bi-annual Manitoba Libraries Conference with great presentations and speakers at a reduced rate. For more information on this year’s conference (May 6-9), go to http://www.manitobalibrariesconference.ca/;
• Contribute to and influence MLA's advocacy work. For example, a 2008-2009 advocacy project included having libraries included in the Province's Adult Literacy Strategy; for more information, go to http://mla.mb.ca/news/what-we-heard-the-literacy-strategy-report-is-in.
• Log in to the MLA Portal at http://mla.mb.ca and view MLA Executive meeting minutes and other documents, add comments to news postings, and maintain your contact information with us;
• Join the MLA-NEWS listserv, with news of workshops, jobs, and courses through the Education Institute;
• Vote at MLA’s Annual General Meeting;
• Interact with individuals involved in the library and information services field throughout the province;
• Stay up-to-date on professional issues.

But most of all, membership offers you an opportunity to make a difference. 

MLA exists, among other things, to be the voice of the library and information services community in Manitoba.  Among our many other goals, MLA works to:

• Promote public awareness of library and information services and related issues in Manitoba; and
• Work for the continued development of comprehensive and accessible library services for all Manitobans.
